  • yes but I don’t hate it

  • Especially since the people actually MAKING the wildly overpriced sandwich are still making Minimum F*cking Wage

#and don’t get me started on how grocery stores (USA specific) have let go of 2/3rds of their staff but STILL raised their prices to almost 3x what they were last year

  • what I think is so great about Yellowjackets is that not a single one of these girls have moved on. shauna is married to jeff and reenacting high school flings with strangers. nat escapes in addiction and still dresses like she's 16. misty went into medical and stalks her teammates. even taissa, who seems like she's come the farthest, we find in the end is still eating dirt in a tree outside her son's window and ritual sacrificing in the basement. and that's trauma!!!!! it never leaves you, and no matter how far you go you never leave it either. nat was right when she told tai and shauna they're just as close to the brink as she is, they just hide it better. and now season 2 "it's happening again" it will always happen it's the cycle it's unbreakable. it's in you. "i thought we left it there when we were rescued, but now I realize. we brought it back with us."

  • it really is sad that algorithmic feeds have broken peoples' brains so badly. people really do come here and go "wait, i have to CHOOSE who i follow to get posts on my dashboard???" because a social media site working the way they were always supposed to work is so alien now. people will assume the site is a ghost town because they don't follow enough active users. there has to be a constant stream of New Content every time you refresh, regardless of whether or not said Content is any good

you can never just get caught up on your feed and put the phone down, because that's not what tiktok and insta and twitter and facebook have conditioned users to expect. putting the phone down means you're not looking at more ads and generating revenue for the site. when you venture off of the following feed twitter's algorithm is very transparently designed to show you bait tweets and other things that will make you angry, because getting people to argue is one of the easiest ways to drive engagement. it's no wonder threads just launched with no following feed whatsoever, just an infinite stream of algorithmic slop. these sites don't want you to curate your own experience because then you might develop a healthier relationship with them. that's not what they want. they want addiction

  • Sorry to all of the people who had to flee book Twitter because of Elon. I can simulate it for you right here though!

    Blocking only creates uninformed bubbles.

  • i love the old web i love the old web so fucking much i wanna kill algorithms and trackers and targeted ads i fucking hate the hellscape we live in now where every site has the same layout and the same "you can only edit ur icon, banner, and description" bs i hate that social media sites are literally built to be addicting i want to fucking kill mark zuckerberg for launching us into this shit

  • i see old web screenshots and i get violent sorry not sorry

  • like this isnt even just about social media. like even corporate websites like 20+ years ago were fucking distinct from each other. they all had their individual styles and stuff to actually do on them. like they were worth visiting in and of themselves

you tell me where one site ends and the next begins in these fucking screenshots. it's all the same. white background, banner with logo/product, 3 little lines at the top right of all the sites for the menu. it sucks. it just sucks so much man.

  • anyways everyone should make a neocities account and website. everyone should check out yesterweb.org and read their zines. everyone should learn how to surf the web.

im not saying yall have to quit social media right now cold turkey. i get it. it's hard when it's literally built to be addicting. im still trying to get off of twitter myself. but please just check out those links. you may find yourself a small respite that still exists from this late stage capitalism hellscape we find ourselves in.

  • Replacing physical buttons and controls with touchscreens also means removing accessibility features. Physical buttons can be textured or have Braille and can be located by touch and don't need to be pressed with a bare finger. Touchscreens usually require precise taps and hand-eye coordination for the same task.

Many point-of-sale machines now are essentially just a smartphone with a card reader attached and the interface. The control layout can change at a moment's notice and there are no physical boundaries between buttons. With a keypad-style machine, the buttons are always in the same place and can be located by touch, especially since the middle button has a raised ridge on it.

Buttons can also be located by touch without activating them, which enables a "locate then press" style of interaction which is not possible on touchscreens, where even light touches will register as presses and the buttons must be located visually rather than by touch.

When elevator or door controls are replaced by touch screens, will existing accessibility features be preserved, or will some people no longer be able to use those controls?

Who is allowed to control the physical world, and who is making that decision?

  • consider the sperm whale and the squid. an ancient rivalry that dates back millions of years. we know the whales eat the squids. we know the squids do not make it easy for them. we know this because of the scars the whales carry, scars on the outside of their body, and on the inside as well. how badly must you want something to endure wounds inside your mouth? inside your gut?

consider the whale, who is harmed by what sustains her. consider the squid, whose flesh is soft and delicious but refuses to go down easy.
